Fat Sparrow dramatically contemplates offing herself

I feel sick, absolutely sick. I just spent an hour working on a post (which was the most brilliant thing I have ever written, mind you), and Blogger lost it. It's gone. I hit "Save As Draft," and it went to a blank screen. And stupid me, I didn't save it to an e-mail, like I usually would have done, as I am out of the habit of posting.

I am going to have a lie-down.

Fuck. I hate that. If it happens again, try hitting the back button on your browser. I saved a post (with craploads of photos and other HTML things) that way.

Sorry.

Bad luck, Sparrow girl.

If you were to get your wish and have your way with the delectable Mr. Hugh Laurie, that would make you a House Sparrow. Just, you know, by the way 'n' stuff.

Devin -- That doesn't sound half-bad. Can I get the little racer boys as they step out of their Civics, too?

Sassy -- I tried everything. It was gone, just gone. I'm sure it was a government plot. They're watching me, you know.

FMC -- Just avoid the ones with anal leakage from the obesity meds.

Sam -- Well shave my legs and sign me up. I'm all for it, as my kidnapping plan seems to have gone awry.

Should one have a comma immediately after a set of brackets?

Fat Sparrow said...

EJH -- Yes, one should, as the parentheses are parenthetical, in which the words contained therein are only to be thought of as an aside, and the comma would follow naturally if the parentheses were not there.

Now re-read that sentence and pick the sweet corn out of it.

But;

1) do not the parentheses have the effect of the comma in and of themselves?

2) would you normally want a comma preceding "and"?

EJH -- I'm not going to argue the relative merits (or lack thereof) of a British writing style versus an American writing style. The points that you are trying to argue have to do with style, not correct or incorrect punctuation.

Not to cast any Asperger's on your motives, but this blog is meant to be enjoyable -- by which I mean enjoyed by me. You, on the other hand get what you pay for.

Old Knudsen -- I have a feeling EJH would happily spend his last days sequestered with a red pen and the collected works of Hemingway.

Mu -- You said it, girlfriend.

Well I don't believe you - I think you were just too lazy to write a real post.

Mutley -- You have found me out.
